| Plot |
| ‘The Illusionist’ directed by Neil Burger is an adaptation of the short story ‘Eisenheim the Illusionist’. The story takes place in Vienna during the early 1900’s. Eisenheim, played by Edward Norton, is a magician who has just opened a show in the city. At his first performance the crowned prince attends with his betrothed, Sophie, played by Jessica Biel. Sophie, who knew Eisenheim when they were children quickly recognizes him when she participates in one of Eisenheim’s demonstrations. Having been reunited they fall in love. However since Sophie is engaged to the prince and Eisenheim is of a significantly lower social status, the two lovers cannot be together. Thus Eisenheim and Sophie begin to plot how they can ultimately change their fate. |
